[Bug 55962] Re: No remote control support

2008-02-27 Thread Timo Aaltonen
There's a "mythbuntu-lirc-generator" package that essentially fixes this
bug. It can't be more automatic than that..

This bug will be addressed upstream by a sub project of the Ubuntu Media
Center Team.

I have already started to discuss with Christoph Bartelmus (LIRC project
leader) and Jon Smirl, who has started some work.
Kernel hackers needed. If you're interested in, contact me back.

Solving bug #65174 would be a great step in the right direction.

[Bug 55962] Re: No remote control support

2006-09-21 Thread Timo Aaltonen
lirc needs a lot of love before it can be said to be working OOTB...
There should be a "lirc-modules" -package like there is linux-
restricted-modules, and that package should contain every module lirc
supports. Then it should be easy (?) to choose/guess the right module
for the hardware..

Hello,

> Does it work if you install the package lirc ?

No. lirc needs a lot of configuration. I saw some Apple Remote support
at http://lirc.sf.net/remotes/apple . The configuration seems quite
painful and need to read a lot of documentation. All lirc*.conf just
contains comment "UNCONFIGURED" and redirect
to /usr/share/doc/lirc/README.Debian :(
