Yes, and that did not work.

 Status in Ubuntu: Incomplete

 Bug description:
Laptop is Acer TravelMate 5602WSMi.  Wireless card is Intel IBG2200w.
Wireless home gateway router is 2002-vintage Siemens SpeedStream, 40-bit WEP
 enabled.

Ubuntu versions 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex), 9.10 (Karmic Koala) and now 10.04
(Lucid Lynx live CD) will not connect to router using Network Manager.
Problem was temporarily resolved in 9.04 (Jaunty Jackalope) but then
 reappeared in next version.

Network Manager in those cases WILL connect to a wireless router with no
 security encryption enabled.

Have tried all suggested solutions with Intrepid and Karmic -- installing
WICD, turning off ACPI, running various commands.  Nothing has worked.  Some
online users suggest it's a kernel bug.   I don't know and don't care, I just
want the latest version of Ubuntu to work.  Using Jaunty right now and it's
dandy but I'd like to have the latest bells and whistles.

Symptoms: After entering password, Network Manager tries for a while, then
asks for password again.   This goes on forever.

Additional info: An iMac, three PC laptops including one so old it's using a
Wi-Fi PCMCIA card, a Wii, a TiVo and a Palm Pre all connect to this
 WEP-enabled router with no problem.

I'd really rather you didn't. I've given you all the relevant
information. The problem is still out there as attested by others'
posts.

[Bug 572642] Re: 10.04 (and 9.10) can't connect to WEP-enabled wireless router

2010-10-25 Thread wagenseil
And the same issue comes up with Ubuntu 10.10, at least with the
live CD.

I can't believe no one has bothered to fix this bug in the past 18
months. I assume there is not a problem with WPA encryption, but I'd
like to believe there are enough users with that very commonplace
wireless card and WEP for the Ubuntu coders to give a rat's butt.

Again -- there is no good reason Ubuntu should not work in a situation
when every other platform and wireless device does.

Asks for the authentication and then does not connect. Authentication
prompt comes again and again even after entering the correct key.

I have a similar problem. I have a Dell Mini 9 which connected just
fine to a network with WPA just fine, but refuses to connect to my home
network with 128bit WEP password. Network Manager acts like it joined
the network, but it claims to be unable to get a DHCP response.
