[Bug 573668] Re: FBDEV(0): FBIOPUTCMAP: Invalid argument on Lucid

2010-06-01 Thread Patrick Welche
In that case, my install must come from the stone age.

Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
Release:10.04
Codename: lucid

Linux x 2.6.32-22-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 28 13:28:05 UTC
2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Apparently up-to-date with respect to updates.

How do you manage to get a kernel 2.6.32 from a lucid install?

[Bug 573668] Re: FBDEV(0): FBIOPUTCMAP: Invalid argument on Lucid

2010-05-31 Thread Patrick Welche
With an /etc/X11/xorg.conf file containing Driver fbdev, I get the
above FBIOPUTCMAP errors. lucid, intel GM45 chipset. (I just removed the
xorg.conf file, and the intel driver is being used, so I have a work
around.)

[Bug 573668] Re: FBDEV(0): FBIOPUTCMAP: Invalid argument on Lucid

2010-05-31 Thread Robert Hooker
It's hardly a fresh lucid install if you're using a 2.6.34 kernel..
nouveau in 2.6.34 and higher does not work with the nouveau userspace in
lucid, you need to update libdrm/xserver-xorg-video-nouveau to use it
and if you update them they will no longer work with a 2.6.33 and older
kernel. Those error messages only happen when you're using fbdev with
KMS, and they are harmless.

** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) = xserver-xorg-video-fbdev (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-fbdev (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Won't Fix

[Bug 573668] Re: FBDEV(0): FBIOPUTCMAP: Invalid argument on Lucid

2010-05-21 Thread serrs
This affects me too.

FBDEV(0): FBIOPUTCMAP: Invalid argument

Running 2.6.34-lucid (from kernel-ppa) on plain Ubuntu 10.04 i386. So,
I don't think it's kubuntu or amd64 specific. It appears to be 2.6.34
on lucid specific. Xorg is using the nouveau driver but appears to be
sick -- I assume this error is causing slowness in 2D acceleration.

(I had to upgrade to 2.6.34 to get away from an odd drm problem with the
ATI ES1000 that is built into a Dell SC440.)
