OK, according to lots of reading stuff over the internet and trying things out for myself, I think the problem is that there are some packages containing modules with the same names that cause conflicts with this one. So try doing this: sudo apt-get remove --purge linux-backports-modules-* Then doing this: sudo modprobe -r lib80211 Then try doing a: sudo modprobe wl Check what is at the end of your /var/log/kern.log - I hope it will be a successful loading of the module! I'm having the same issue. The card works fine with the standard kernel, but booting up with the pae kernel prevents my wireless from working.
