[Bug 577460] Re: Large screen-noise on Compaq 6820s with ATI Mobility Radeon X1350

2012-04-08 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Silviu-Ionut Radu, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue?
Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images
are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in the
development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and
attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your
results.

Thanks in advance.

2010-10-12 Thread K.i.K.
Hello I´m back again,

I´ve installed ubuntu 09.10 and there are no flickering problems, but I have to
try it with the nomodeset on 10.04. For this I need more specific information
because I can´t find anything in the internet on ubuntu pages, but will this
link hit the problem?
http://www.antiyes.com/dell-studio-15-ubuntu-910-install

May you explain the difference between 09.10 and 10.04 using Graphics-
card?

During the Grub-menue the Screen is without any flickering, what is the
difference between grub-graphic-settings and boot-graphic-settings?

2010-10-12 Thread Silviu-Ionut Radu
Hi, KiK

I have no idea why this noise is making its appearance.
But, the nomodeset it's set as a SWITCH to your linux kernel in order to
skip, probably, a graphical engine loade with the kernel, the flicker and
noise comes up when booting the kernel, not when loading grub.

[Bug 577460] Re: Large screen-noise on Compaq 6820s with ATI Mobility Radeon X1350

2010-10-12 Thread Guenael Amieux
I solved the issue on my HP6820s, thank to several posts here and
elsewhere on the web :

- press F8 at the beginning of the Ubuntu 10.10 install process
- type F6 and select nomodeset
- install Ubuntu normally, the screen will work normally
- open a terminal and type sudo gedit /boot/grub/grub.cfg
- look for the following lines :

### BEGIN /etc/grub.d/10_linux ###
menuentry 'Ubuntu, with Linux 2.6.35-22-generic' --class ubuntu --class
gnu-linux --class gnu --class os {
recordfail
insmod part_msdos
insmod ext2
set root='(hd0,msdos5)'
search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set 0be7aa27-ffe0-42d2-9d53-fd7e2c595509
linux/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.35-22-generic
root=UUID=0be7aa27-ffe0-42d2-9d53-fd7e2c595509 ro  quiet splash
initrd/boot/initrd.img-2.6.35-22-generic
}

- change this line :
from : linux/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.35-22-generic
root=UUID=0be7aa27-ffe0-42d2-9d53-fd7e2c595509 ro  quiet splash
to : linux/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.35-22-generic
root=UUID=0be7aa27-ffe0-42d2-9d53-fd7e2c595509 ro nomodeset  quiet splash

- save the file.
- reboot, everything works fine.

I hope I did not omit any step !

Best regards,

Guénaël

This issue is still present in Maverick Meerkat.
Does this realy affects only a certain hardware configuration.
It's so frustrating when you make kernel update and forget to mod the grub.cfg
in order to boot with 'nomodeset'

Please give me a hint.

Hi all,

same bug here, the workaround seems to be 'nomodeset' kernel boot
parameter which avoids setting framebuffer on boot. This works for me.

2010-05-09 Thread Jeremy Foshee
Hi Silviu-Ionut,

Please be sure to confirm this issue exists with the latest development release
of Ubuntu. ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If the issue remains, please run the
following command from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It
will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 577460

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be
great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be
done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the
bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.
Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I have installed the upstream kernel linux-image-2.6.34-999-generic, but still
no luck.
I also have the system up-to-date.

It is very hard to work with the system with this issue, hope we can solve it.
Thank you guys!
