Now I'd like to test your fix, but the latest version I can find on the Ubuntu Audio Dev PPA is linux-alsa-driver-modules-2.6.32-22-generic. I can't find version -23. Maybe I'm too stupid to use a PPA... Can you please help me on? Thans a lot, Øyvind, you made my day. When booting with radeon.modeset=0 there is no problem with crackling sound. So this seems to be a bug with KMS... At least now I have a workaround until this bug is really fixed. I have somewhat similar hardware and have problems with crackling audio on Ubuntu Lucid when using radeon KMS. If I disable KMS the crackling goes away completely.
