[Bug 582025] Re: Dell XPS M1330 - Suspend and Hibernate do not work in 10.04, worked in 9.1

2010-07-24 Thread Am Elder
I'm also having a suspend / hibernate problem on my Dell E6400. I have
an nvidia gpu, using the proprietary driver. No SD cards in the
machine. For me, hibernate and suspend stopped working in Jaunty and
I'm just now getting around to trying to looking for a fix.

When I tell the laptop to suspend or hibernate, the laptop goes to an
illuminated black screen and doesn't sleep. When I press a key or touch
the trackpad, the Log On dialog box appears. I haven't experienced a
freeze either going into or coming back from suspend or hibernate.

This problem appeared in autumn last year after I had been running
Jaunty for several months. This spring, I updated to Karmic and then
straight through to Lucid and the problem remains.

I'll attach a file containing the last two log reports from my /var/log
/pm-suspend.log. One records me trying to suspend, the second trying to
hibernate.

It looks to my untrained eye that the important lines in both cases are:

/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/98tuxoniceui suspend
suspend:/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/98tuxoniceui: 10: cannot create
/sys/power/tuxonice/user_interface/enable_escape: Directory nonexistent
Returned exit code 2.
Thu Jul 22 04:47:58 CEST 2010: Inhibit found, will not perform suspend

Hi all,

do you have any SD card in your card reader?
unmount and remove it and then try to suspend/hibernate - it helped me.

2010-07-04 Thread Swâmi Petaramesh
Hi,

Dell XPS M1330 (Intel video). Both suspend to RAM and hibernate (to
fully encrypted LVM) DID work good in Jaunty and Karmic ; in 10.04 Lucid
suspend to RAM and resume still work but hibernate doesn't work at all
anymore :

- Trying to hibernate machine causes it to hang forever with power up
and black (but backlit) screen, until power off.

- Restarting there causes the kernel to spit a message stating that an
hibernation image was found on swap, but "normal cold boot" goes on
whatsoever.

[Bug 582025] Re: Dell XPS M1330 - Suspend and Hibernate do not work in 10.04, worked in 9.1

2010-06-08 Thread Bryan
I have the same symptoms on my m1330. It began after installation of
10.04 (upgraded from 9.10). I experienced problems with my graphics
driver, so I did a "sudo apt-get remove --purge nvidia*" and then
installed "nvidia-current". I think this might have something to do with
the nvidia driver. I do not have a custom grub file, my startup is
already in high resolution, so this shouldn't be the source of the bug.

Please let me know if there is any more information that I can provide.

2010-05-17 Thread digitalbenji
Also, I have a custom modification to my /etc/default/grub file, because
I suffer from the issue where the new splash screen (don't remember the
name) looks really terrible. I added the following:

GRUB_GFXMODE=1280x800
GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=1280x800

and commented out:
#GRUB_GFXMODE=640x480

to make the resolution more aesthetic for me. Hopefully this isn't the
source of my problems.

Thanks,

[Bug 582025] Re: Dell XPS M1330 - Suspend and Hibernate do not work in 10.04, worked in 9.1

2010-05-17 Thread digitalbenji
Update:
If I do a sudo pm-suspend or click on the power icon and go to suspend I get
the same results:

Black screen, but backlight stays on. Seems like a soft lockup at this
point, except that if I press the power button, it goes on briefly, then
off. Backlight never goes off. Doesn't seem to actually be suspended.
At this point, a hard reboot is required.

Once I perform a hard reboot and get back into Gnome, network manager
always has networking disabled (right click enable networking is not
checked).

I looked through /var/log/debug following a lockup, and didn't notice
anything particularly helpful.

Here is the output of pm-suspend.log:
Initial commandline parameters:
Sun May 16 16:52:29 EDT 2010: Running hooks for suspend.
/usr/lib/pm-utils/sleep.d/000kernel-change suspend suspend:success.
