Eigh? Without dbus-session of course it won't work.

[Bug 58344] Re: This program cannot start until you start the dbus session service.

2007-02-06 Thread Oliver Grawert
the dbus dependency exists by design, the package installs dbus
alongside if its not there, if you wish to run your session without dbus
you are free to, but please understand that dbus is an integral part of
modern desktops, so apps might not work if they cant communicate through
it.

Rejected?? why. I think this is a kind of important issue. That if you
boot and leave the computer it will never go to sleep (drain battery on
laptops). Also if you logout then you have the same issue, the power
manager are no longer in work. Laptop as desktop.

2007-02-06 Thread Oliver Grawert
Rejected because it will work as intended if used as intended ... the
apps name is *gnome*-power-manager, used in a gnome environment (where
core parts (themeing, font handling, screensaver etc) of the desktop use
dbus and thus require it to run) it will do the right thing. Feel free
to file an upstream bug about dbus independence for use in dbus free
environments.

I have not disabled any dbus. I did try to add the gnome-power-manager
to a boot script, just to see if it could suspend the computer if *not*
logged in. But it failed.

The point of this bug report is.. that it should run the gnome-power-
manager even if you are not logged in.

i dont see the relation to gnome-power-manager in that last comment
apart from the fact that gnome-power-manager needs and uses dbus by
design and cant work without it running (as most GNOME and KDE desktop
apps nowadays).

Or run in gdm session. David Zeuthen is working on the infrastructure to
make all this stuff just work.
