[Bug 58552] Re: Mounting Problems in Kubuntu Edgy after the Xserver is restarted

2007-01-22 Thread Thanos Kyritsis
I think this bug is related to using devices by uuid inside the fstab
and not to KDE or any of its updates.

I have 1 ntfs partition and 2 vfat partitions in my fstab. I had
reverted them to the classic /dev/hdXY naming scheme inside the fstab so
that I don't have to face this bug. I fully updated my Kubuntu and
reverted them back to the uuids again when I saw your comments that this
bug is fixed on its own. Actually, nothing changed. When I relogin only
the 2 vfats stay mounted, not the ntfs one.

And then I noticed that the two lines for the vfats had the mount option
uid=0, whereas the ntfs partition lacked this option. I added it to the
ntfs line as well, and the problem seems to have been fixed now.

But I don't think this bug should be closed. I ain't seeing any
difference than before and I have to play the hacker-role everytime
and find which mount options are more friendly for any side-effects to
not occur.

So, if you remove the uid=0 options or do anything else magical trick,
no bug is fixed and the problem is still there. Whether you'd like to
run a deeper research into it or not is your matter, but have in mind
that an average newbie user will keep seeing his partitions vanishing
after relogins.

It looks like the problem was solved by the latest updates of Kubuntu
Edgy, at least as far as the Kubuntu 32bit is concerned.

KDE 3.5.5 solved this problem, however if I restart the Xserver, log in
and insert a DVD (data) an empty window shows up and I have to press the
Refresh button in order to see its files.

[Bug 58552] Re: Mounting Problems in Kubuntu Edgy after the Xserver is restarted

2006-09-05 Thread Jucato
I confirm this behavior. One does not need to restart X for it to
happen. Just by logging off and logging back in, partitions are
unmounted.

However, this seems to only affect ext3, reiserfs or xfs partitions.
vfat and ntfs partitions remain mounted.
