[Bug 602605] Re: nm-applet shows the wrong status when connected to a unsecured wifi network
I reinstalled my laptop from scratch and realized that I missed one factor in this equation. On all my machines I have the package: shiki-colors installed and the theme set to Shiki Dust I wonder if the others with this issue also have the shiki-colors package installed? -- nm-applet shows the wrong status when connected to a unsecured wifi network https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/602605 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 602605] Re: nm-applet shows the wrong status when connected to a unsecured wifi network
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 539300 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/539300 Right. So this is totally reproducible with the shiki-colors icon theme set, and ends up being the same issue with broadcom drivers not reporting the right signal level information -- marking as a duplicate of bug 539300. ** This bug has been marked a duplicate of bug 539300 [Lucid] Network Manager Applet Wi-Fi icon always shows red exclamation mark * You can subscribe to bug 539300 by following this link: https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/539300/+subscribe -- nm-applet shows the wrong status when connected to a unsecured wifi network https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/602605 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 602605] Re: nm-applet shows the wrong status when connected to a unsecured wifi network
I am having the same problem as well. Only it happens for me whether the network is secured or not. My home network is secured with WPA2 encryption, and I can connect perfectly fine and browse normally. I have also been able to connect to unencrypted networks and browse just fine, but once again the network icon shows that I am not connected. Also when I click the icon to bring up the list of available networks it gives me a disconnect option, but the name of the network I am connected to is still in the list of the available networks, not where it should be if I'm connected to it (which I think is the one of the problems @Tyler Aviss has too). Any word on this? It doesn't necessarily hinder workflow, but it is rather anoying -- nm-applet shows the wrong status when connected to a unsecured wifi network https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/602605 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 602605] Re: nm-applet shows the wrong status when connected to a unsecured wifi network
Same issue here. Some details Hardware: HP Pavillion TX2000 series (tx2524ca) laptop Distro/Version: Ubuntu 10.04 (64-bit) Theme: Ambience Icon Theme: Crystal SVG (have tried other themes) Encryption used: Yes, WPA2-PSK Wifi Chipset: Broadcom Corporation BCM4322 802.11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN Controller (rev 01) Driver: Broadcom STA wireless driver I've changed the icon theme a few times. It shows different variations on a disconnected (red x in corner) icon. If I click my network's name, it will disconnect then reconnect with console output (but still a bad icon in the end): ** (nm-applet:4782): DEBUG: foo_client_state_changed_cb ** (nm-applet:4782): DEBUG: going for offline with icon: notification-network-wireless-disconnected ** (nm-applet:4782): DEBUG: foo_client_state_changed_cb If I connect to my VPN, it connects and then we end up with a VPN lock icon over the network disconnected icon, which is AFAIK not really even possible unless perhaps the VPN was on localhost... Despite the disconnected icon, I am able to browse normally (using it to write up this report) and hovering over the icon gives: Wireless network connection 'mynetworkname' active I should note that my other machines don't seem to have this issue, so perhaps it's related to some weird output from the driver, but I'm not sure how to get more debug info on what exactly nm-applet isn't parsing correctly. I'll try and dig up a liveCD to see if perhaps it'll load the STA driver from that and give similar results, or if perhaps it's an issue with this install.
Can you try setting your icon theme to Ubuntu-Mono-Light or something else, to try and figure out if it's an icon issue? I can't reproduce it here at all. -- nm-applet shows the wrong status when connected to a unsecured wifi network https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/602605 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 602605] Re: nm-applet shows the wrong status when connected to a unsecured wifi network
answers to the questions: -Secure or Not Secured nm-applet (not Network Manager) shows the correct status with a secured network. I was switching between secured and non secured on the same router using two SSID's. I am able to connect both ways so Network Manager works. the nm-applet has the problem! it shows the incorrect status even though I am connected -Jockey this happens on three different machines all with different wifi hardware so the STA driver (which is incompatible with the machine I reported from) is irrellevant. again the issue is only with the nm-applet showing a status that does not agree with Network Manager!!
Thanks for reporting a bug and helping to make Ubuntu better! In order to better help you we would need some additional information: - Does NetworkManager behave any differently if used with a secured wifi connection? - Please try to set your system, through Restricted Drivers under Settings, Administration, to use the STA driver for Broadcom devices. Does the icon show the proper status in that case? ** Changed in: network-manager (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- nm-applet shows the wrong status when connected to a unsecured wifi network https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/602605 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
