[Bug 605967] Re: System freezes when battery powered
Thomas Lenarz, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please capture the oops following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelTeamBugPolicies#Capturing_OOPs ? As well, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please do not test the kernel in the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. As well, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream', and comment as to why specifically you were unable to test it. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. [Bug 605967] Re: System freezes when battery powered
Very similar to the problem posted, but my system was just fine when using 10.04. it was only when I updated to 10.10 that the freezes started. There is a forum thread with a number of people who have the same problem describing their hardware. the URL is http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=10029746#post10029746 . The logs dont show anything useful. From my observation the freeze strikes wheneven on battery and any power related activity occurs, like insertion of USB drive, switching on wi-fi etc. -- System freezes when battery powered https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/605967 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I have the same problem. System freezes completely once I plug out the power supply. And also if I start system without power supply it freezes once the Wi-Fi network is started. [Bug 605967] Re: System freezes when battery powered
Apparently the problem still exists in maverick. There are several people talking about it in the forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1595196 I am also experiencing freezes on 10.10 when running on battery. With 10.04 I never had that problem. The problem started the same day I upgraded so I don't think is a hardware issue. I cannot see any error on the logs. The computer just freezes and won't even respond to a REISUB. The freezes are very random, from just a few seconds after logging in to several hours I do get many of these (1 each 5 seconds) Oct 19 02:19:10 ubuntu kernel: [ 9147.643059] intel ips :00:1f.6: CPU power or thermal limit exceeded but my computer is not hot at all: santi...@ubuntu:~$ sensors acpitz-virtual-0 Adapter: Virtual device temp1: +26.8°C (crit = +100.0°C) temp2:+0.0°C (crit = +100.0°C) I have a dell studio 1558 intel i3, intel integrated gpu broadcom wifi 64bits OS, 10.10 (upgraded from 10.04.Not a fresh install) -- System freezes when battery powered https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/605967 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 605967] Re: System freezes when battery powered
I just came across to see that there is a ubuntu-package for the proprietary-graphics-driver fglrx available. I gave it a try. The problem seems to occur less with this driver than with the open source radeon-driver. I got the system booted up with battery-power. And it generally worked fine disconnecting and reconnecting the AC-supply. However, once the system froze as well on disconnecting the AC-adaptor.
