Annoyingly, this works occasionally with the time honoured Turning It Off And Turning It On Again technique. I can then reboot as often as I like and it stays working, but powering off and powering on again will cause it to fail. Although i guess that'd really be for the my tv isn't detected rather than my tv should always be detected, which is this bug.
