>From the backtrace in comment #5, this is crashing in sp_repr_do_read while reading in the preferences file. The backtrace appears to be crashing during the garbage collection setup for Inkscape::XML::SimpleDocument, in the call to GC_malloc(256). I think we'd need to know more specific steps to reproduce this.
