I'd say this is fixed. I recently decided to re-install 6.06 on my laptop (going back from 6.10). I found my old magazine (august APC) disc wouldn't work so downloaded ubuntu-6.06.1-desktop-i386.iso from ubuntu download site. Firefox opens some hidden files in the user profile area to prevent multiple instances opening. On closing, Firefox is supposed to delete the profile files. If the profile files are not deleted, Firefox thinks it must still be running and refuses to open. So, somehow Ubuntu is installing some profile files during the installation phase so that a new installation fails until the offending files are deleted. Now, in answer to your question, no - I close Firefox before shutting down. HOWEVER, shutdown does not work in ubuntu so there are often (less dramatic) dialog errors on startup. I have found that to cleanly exit Firefox under Ubuntu you must click the File-Close menu item. Clicking the Close icon (X in top right hand corner ) or File-Exit menu item will apparently close Firefox but it will generate an error message on startup (something like Firefox wasn't shut down properly - do you want to restore previous windows blah blah blah) JohnL -- No virus found in this outgoing message. There is no open instance of Firefox showing in the System Monitor. I have downloaded and installed epiphany and that works fine so there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with the network settings. I'm using Bpalogin - downloaded from Ubuntu via Synaptic. Look in System - Administration - System Monitor and see if any instances of firefox are running.
