This one should be fixed with unity 0.2.42 adding multi monitor support. ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: New = Fix Released -- External display won't display https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/634068 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 634068] Re: External display won't display
This morning I started the netbook with the TV plugged in. Netbook screen was dead and TV good. (slightly different behaviour from last night) Output of xrandr -q was: Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1360 x 768, maximum 4096 x 4096 VGA1 connected 1360x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 1102mm x 620mm 1360x768 60.0*+ 1024x768 75.1 70.1 60.0 800x60072.2 75.0 60.3 56.2 640x48072.8 75.0 60.0 720x40070.1 LVDS1 connected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 1024x600 60.0 + 800x60060.3 56.2 640x48059.9 I then restarted with the TV unplugged. Netbook screen was good again. I plugged in the TV and it came alive with the strange black screen and limited mouse pointer described above. Output of xrandr -q was: Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1024 x 600, maximum 4096 x 4096 VGA1 connected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 1360x768 60.0 + 1024x768 75.1 70.1 60.0 800x60072.2 75.0 60.3 56.2 640x48072.8 75.0 60.0 720x40070.1 LVDS1 connected 1024x600+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 223mm x 125mm 1024x600 60.0*+ 800x60060.3 56.2 640x48059.9 -- External display won't display https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/634068 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 634068] Re: External display won't display
Interesting. It looks like it's getting confused, seeing the TV as 1368 wide so setting up to use that width, but then configuring a xinerama spanning both monitors with the laptop on the left and the TV on the right. Have you tried running gnome-display-properties? [Bug 634068] Re: External display won't display
I think you are right about it getting confused. I ran gnome-display- properties and the various settings give varying and incorrect results. I have attached 4 screenshots to illustrate. The only correct output I can get is when disabling either one of the displays. In this case the remaining display is correct. I will file as a separate bug the issue that gnome-display-properties is not accessible through the GUI in Unity. ** Attachment added: TV at correct resolution spreads output onto half of netbook screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/634068/+attachment/1565726/+files/IMAG0032.jpg -- External display won't display https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/634068 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

logout, there select 'Ubuntu Desktop Edition' from the drop down menu, enter your password and login. now connect the external display and see if your external screen works. [Bug 634068] Re: External display won't display
Tested that with the following results: In gnome-session the TV was not detected when the cable was plugged in. I found the settings for monitor in the normal Ubuntu place, but the TV would only activate when the netbook monitor was de-activated. Restarting with the TV plugged in had the TV active, but not the netbook monitor. Restarting with the TV plugged out brought back normal display to the netbook. Plugging TV back in had no effect Restarting with TV plugged in now brought up the strange situation shown on the attached photo: Note the mouse curser below the flash reflection - this will move no further to the right, but will move back onto the netbook screen. ** Attachment added: IMAG0029.jpg https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/634068/+attachment/1561368/+files/IMAG0029.jpg -- External display won't display https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/634068 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
