The issue is that for whatever reason Ubuntu defaults Qt applications run as root to that style. You can fix the issue by installing the qtconfig-qt4 package, then running "gksudo qtconfig-qt4" and selecting the GTK theme instead. Even compiling from source (either from GIT or PPA), the widgets still look like windows.
