Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: foomatic-filters-ppds

The following PPD files:

HP-LaserJet_4240-Postscript.ppd
HP-LaserJet_4250-Postscript.ppd

appear to have mal-formed lines in them. The lines in question look like
this (there are about 5 of these lines in each file):

*UIConstraints: *HPManualDuplex True * PageRegion EnvMonarch

I don't know anything about PPD file format, but I do know that the KDE
printer manager chokes on these files as written, but it doesn't choke
on them if I delete the space between the "*" and the "PageRegion".

I know that these files don't originate in Ubuntu, but I thought I
should report it to the Unbuntu bug database since I found the problem
while running Ubuntu. I'll see if I can figure out the right upstream
place to report this as well.

The problem is made worse by the fact that the KDE printer configuration
tools don't seem to respond too well to reading a bad ppd file. Once
they read this bad file, the "Driver Settings" tab disappears from _all_
printers, even ones with good PPD files. I'll try to figure out the
right package against which to report this KDE bug.

Thanks for your work in making a great operating system.

Scott Thatcher
