I felt this was a timing issue, so I set my cpu to a slower speed in the BIOS and this error message disappeared. (I still have other problems though, like bug #595321. I have the same problem and it is not a mix up as my message reads "modprobe: Fatal: Could not load /lib/modules/2.6.35-22-generic/modules.dep: no such file or directory".
