Any news on what could be the problem?
Do you want me to test something else on my system?

Thanks for your attention.

[Bug 659828] Re: [Realtek ALC880] Playback problem (crackling while moving window)

2010-12-02 Thread nikhov
Hi, thanks for your attention.
I've followed the instructions in the wiki.
After reboot it seems to be ok, but after some minutes of using the computer
the same problem appears.

Why are you using the model=lg quirk? Can you remove it, reboot, and
reproduce the symptom reported above?

[Bug 659828] Re: [Realtek ALC880] Playback problem (crackling while moving window)

2010-12-02 Thread nikhov
I added the model=lg line to alsa-base.conf some time ago (I think when
I installed ubuntu 6.10 on 2006, but I'm not sure). If I don't use it
the built-in speakers and the mics (both the built-in and external) dont
work.

Anyway, I've tried removing that option and rebooting, and the problem
persists.

[Bug 659828] Re: [Realtek ALC880] Playback problem (crackling while moving window)

2010-12-02 Thread Daniel T Chen
Ok, so there are two bugs being reported here:

1) Your machine needs a model quirk applied. Please file a separate bug
so we can get that fix pushed upstream. Just to clarify, do all
playback and capture work properly (aside from crackling, etc.) with
that quirk?  I.e., inserting headphones mutes internal speakers;
inserting external mic mutes internal mic

2) The symptom you reported in this bug report

[Bug 659828] Re: [Realtek ALC880] Playback problem (crackling while moving window)

2010-12-02 Thread nikhov
1) Everything works as expected when I use the model=lg option, except one
thing: I have to reselect the mic (click on other mic, or in Line-In, and
then on the Mic again) in the mixer on every reboot in order to have it
working. If I don't do this, the mic doesn't work.
Related to that, I've found this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/595482
I think it's the same problem (i've posted a comment on it) . Should I file
another bug?

2) The problem of the pops, crackling and music slow-down didn't happen before
ubuntu 10.10 (perhaps before 10.04, I'm not sure.. sorry, I should have filed
the bug before).
It happens with the model=lg quirk and without it.
If that helps, I have tried to bootup with an ubuntu 10.10 live cd, and the
problem is reproduced.

Great, thanks. I've read your comment in the other bug, and it's fine
not to file a new bug. (In most cases we [the development team] will
simply mark them duplicates.) Please be sure to attach output from
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Audio/AlsaInfo as requested in the
other bug.

As for the need to reselect the mic, it's probably due to pulse, but we
need your AlsaInfo output first.
