[Bug 660302] Re: e1000e ethernet link down

2011-01-13 Thread PascalCavy
Of course there is no activity since Ubuntu does not answer or take it
into account. There has been sufficient information given to treat this
problem.

So once more at this date 2011-01-13 :

1. the current maverick updated kernel still does not work - ethernet link is
always down when booting this kernel
logs will be added

2. any other latest upstream kernel works - the ethernet link is up and
ethernet usable :
   $ uname -a
Linux minipc 2.6.37-999-generic #201101030905 SMP Mon Jan 3 09:07:19 UTC
2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux
   $ cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.37-999-generic (root@zinc) (gcc version 4.2.3 (Ubuntu
4.2.3-2ubuntu7)) #201101030905 SMP Mon Jan 3 09:07:19 UTC 2011

[Bug 660302] Re: e1000e ethernet link down

2011-01-12 Thread Jeremy Foshee
Hi PascalCavy,

This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it
recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach
updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux 660302

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be
great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be
done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the
bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.
Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

[This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 660302] Re: e1000e ethernet link down

2010-10-25 Thread PascalCavy
The current updated maverick kernel renders my integrated ethernet
completely unusable ! The ethernet link always stays down.

I have noticed on my ethernet switch the following difference between old
2.6.32-25.44, current 2.6.35-22.35 and devel 2.6.36-020636.201010210905 :
- before boot at power on the link is up
- on boot the link is put down as soon as 2.6.35-22.35 is started
- on boot the links stays up with the old and devel kernel

[Bug 660302] Re: e1000e ethernet link down

2010-10-23 Thread PascalCavy
I change the subject because in fact it is worse than expected.
When the system boot eth link is often OK and up. But then upon
suspend/resume, it might not come back up.
EVEN unloading/reloading the module e1000e several times does not fix the
problem. The eth link is working well in windows and in lucid.

** Summary changed:

- module e1000e needs option SmartPowerDownEnable=1 for suspend/resume to work
+ e1000e ethernet link down

[Bug 660302] Re: e1000e ethernet link down

2010-10-23 Thread PascalCavy
and the fix I reported in the initial comment has no effect, the link
came back at random when unloading/reloading the e1000e module. (2nd
update of maverick kernel).

With the 3rd update of maverick kernel
Linux minipc 2.6.32-25-generic #44-Ubuntu SMP Fri Sep 17 20:05:27 UTC 2010
x86_64 GNU/Linux
Linux version 2.6.32-25-generic (bui...@yellow) (gcc version 4.4.3 (Ubuntu
4.4.3-4ubuntu5) ) #44-Ubuntu SMP Fri Sep 17 20:05:27 UTC 2010
I am no more able to make the link up if the e1000e module is unloaded.

[Bug 660302] Re: e1000e ethernet link down

2010-10-23 Thread PascalCavy
well I must be clear, sorry.

with K2.6.32-25.44 Eth works OK

With K2.6.35-22.35 Eth works at boot (not every time), then once the
e1000e module is unloaded/reloaded or the machine goes to
suspend2ram/wakeup the link stays down.
