[Bug 660302] Re: e1000e ethernet link down
Of course there is no activity since Ubuntu does not answer or take it into account. There has been sufficient information given to treat this problem. So once more at this date 2011-01-13 : 1. the current maverick updated kernel still does not work - ethernet link is always down when booting this kernel logs will be added 2. any other latest upstream kernel works - the ethernet link is up and ethernet usable : $ uname -a Linux minipc 2.6.37-999-generic #201101030905 SMP Mon Jan 3 09:07:19 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux $ cat /proc/version Linux version 2.6.37-999-generic (root@zinc) (gcc version 4.2.3 (Ubuntu 4.2.3-2ubuntu7)) #201101030905 SMP Mon Jan 3 09:07:19 UTC 2011 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/660302 Title: e1000e ethernet link down -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 660302] Re: e1000e ethernet link down
Hi PascalCavy, This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux 660302 Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. [This is an automated message. Apologies if it has reached you inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.] ** Tags added: needs-kernel-logs ** Tags added: needs-upstream-testing ** Tags added: kj-triage ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/660302 Title: e1000e ethernet link down -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 660302] Re: e1000e ethernet link down
The current updated maverick kernel renders my integrated ethernet completely unusable ! The ethernet link always stays down. I have noticed on my ethernet switch the following difference between old 2.6.32-25.44, current 2.6.35-22.35 and devel 2.6.36-020636.201010210905 : - before boot at power on the link is up - on boot the link is put down as soon as 2.6.35-22.35 is started - on boot the links stays up with the old and devel kernel System Information Manufacturer: AOpen Product Name: i965GMx-IF Version: AO1JW Serial Number: OEM UUID: ----0001 Wake-up Type: Power Switch SKU Number: Family: Ethernet Controler : 00:19.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82566MM Gigabit Network Connection (rev 03) kernel : Linux minipc 2.6.35-22-generic #35-Ubuntu SMP Sat Oct 16 20:45:36 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux Linux version 2.6.35-22-generic (bui...@yellow) (gcc version 4.4.5 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.4.4-14ubuntu5) ) #35-Ubuntu SMP Sat Oct 16 20:45:36 UTC 2010 Symptom : [ 167.820884] e1000e :00:19.0: setting latency timer to 64 [ 167.821037] e1000e :00:19.0: (unregistered net_device): PHY Smart Power Down Enabled [ 167.821083] e1000e :00:19.0: irq 40 for MSI/MSI-X [ 168.282770] e1000e :00:19.0: eth0: (PCI Express:2.5GB/s:Width x1) 00:01:80:67:da:2d [ 168.282773] e1000e :00:19.0: eth0: Intel(R) PRO/1000 Network Connection [ 168.282892] e1000e :00:19.0: eth0: MAC: 6, PHY: 6, PBA No: ff-0ff [ 168.610253] e1000e :00:19.0: irq 40 for MSI/MSI-X [ 168.670065] e1000e :00:19.0: irq 40 for MSI/MSI-X [ 168.670878] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): eth0: link is not ready [ 170.191373] e1000e :00:19.0: PCI INT A disabled -- e1000e ethernet link down https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/660302 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 660302] Re: e1000e ethernet link down
I change the subject because in fact it is worse than expected. When the system boot eth link is often OK and up. But then upon suspend/resume, it might not come back up. EVEN unloading/reloading the module e1000e several times does not fix the problem. The eth link is working well in windows and in lucid. ** Summary changed: - module e1000e needs option SmartPowerDownEnable=1 for suspend/resume to work + e1000e ethernet link down -- e1000e ethernet link down https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/660302 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

and the fix I reported in the initial comment has no effect, the link came back at random when unloading/reloading the e1000e module. (2nd update of maverick kernel). well I must be clear, sorry. with K2.6.32-25.44 Eth works OK With K2.6.35-22.35 Eth works at boot (not every time), then once the e1000e module is unloaded/reloaded or the machine goes to suspend2ram/wakeup the link stays down.
