I straced kglobalaccel, and it shows no activity when the calculator key is pressed, while it properly reacts to other global shortcuts normally. Perhaps kglobalaccel doesn't properly translate from the string "Launch (1)" (which is the one saved in the configuration) to the keycode that it must register with X11 to intercept the keypress.
