2011-05-20 Thread bugbot
We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the
original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to
reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against
the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we
may be able to pass upstream for help.

2011-04-27 Thread bugbot
Hey Milton,

Hi, have you had a chance to test if this bug is still present in natty?

If it does (and if you're the original reporter), please boot into natty
and run the command:

  apport-collect bug-number

which will update the bug with fresh logs and tag the bug as affecting
natty. (It is best to run this right after reproducing the problem.)

[Bug 665233] Re: Ubuntu Maverick with ATI RADEON screen corruption

2011-03-12 Thread Milton
I found that solution in some forum (alas, I don't remember which one).
But the relevant thing is that this problem is affecting a lot of ubuntu
users since 10.04 at least (which means, almost a year), and there
wasn't a solution even if there are tons of complains in forums an
blogs. Today they launched new xserver-xorg-vide-ati and xserver-xorg-
vide-radeon packages, but I don't know if there is a fix in them (and I
don't want to rollback this workaround to see if they did it).

Best!

[Bug 665233] Re: Ubuntu Maverick with ATI RADEON screen corruption

2011-03-09 Thread Dale Crawford
I just wanted to say!!! POST #7 and #8 from Milton COMPLETELY FIXED MY
FLICKERING PROBLEM!!! I am running a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10 on a
ATI Radeon X1300 512MB AGP Graphics card, 1.2Gb RAM, and a 2.0GHZ
Sempron +2800 Processor. I have had this flickering problem ever since I
FRESH installed Ubuntu 10.10 from 10.04. I could never find a working
solution *AND* Keep Compiz's desktop effects working but this worked
perfectly!!! One thing I would like to mention is that in step #8, while
running the links commands, I noticed in my terminal that my *fglrx-
modaliases* got removed and so I went ahead and ran the command it
explains after Optionally, if you want the proprietary fglrx/Catalyst
driver to be installable through the Restricted Hardware Driver Manager
(a.k.a. jockey), you'll need to: then changed the little command line
in grub, restarted and within 5 mins. flicker gone and everything is
running perfectly!

[Bug 665233] Re: Ubuntu Maverick with ATI RADEON screen corruption

2011-03-03 Thread Milton
SOLVED. (I hope!)

These are the steps:

remove everything that has something to do with the graphics enviroment,
as it says here:

Then,

$ sudo gedit /etc/default/grub

and change this line:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash

for this one:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash nomodeset acpi_backlight=vendor

then

$ sudo update-grub

reboot and be happy. Desktop effects work too.

[Bug 665233] Re: Ubuntu Maverick with ATI RADEON screen corruption

2011-03-01 Thread Milton
Ok, it wasn't the new AMD ATI Drivers what seemed to solve the
problem, which is still present.

This is what I just did:

I've removed all packages fglrx, xserver-xorg-video-ati and xserver-
xorg-video-radeon.

I reinstalled xserver-xorg-video-ati and the mesa libraries.
I deleted the xorg.conf.

$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg-video-ati

when I rebooted, the laptop screen (I have dual monitor, with a samsung
lcd monitor too) wasn't flickering anymore, but the LCD screen wasn't in
the correct resolution. Then I set up the monitors resolution, the
system asked me to logout and the flickering was back.

So I installed the fglrx packages again:

$ sudo apt-get install fglrx*

When I rebooted, the flickering was still present. Then I wrote:

$ sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg-core

And when I rebooted the flickering was gone, but... Desktop Effects
can't be enabled.

What can I do?
