[Bug 67036] Re: Getting Started - a gripe
The "Burning the ISO" section should be put before the mirror lists on http://www.ubuntu.com/download. My thoughts on usability are that someone goes to ubuntu.com, clicks on download, then clicks on their country. Many won't check what's further down on the download page before heading to the mirror. The other two sections are OK at the bottom - "Ordering Pressed CDs" at the bottom is OK because there's a link to "Shipit - Free CDs" on the top right anyway and the "Source Code" section isn't important to installation either. -- Getting Started - a gripe https://launchpad.net/bugs/67036 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Also new to Ubuntu 6.10 is the Switching From Windows Guide that will help you make the switch and should explain things. THe doc-team would love to have you help out w/ documentation and the wiki and any other way you could contribute to Ubuntu -- Getting Started - a gripe https://launchpad.net/bugs/67036 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 67036] Re: Getting Started - a gripe
im actually changing my mind on this, as maybe we could at least direct users to information on what an ISO image is, and the options they have for "burning" the images. ** Changed in: ubuntu-doc (upstream) Importance: Undecided => Wishlist Status: Rejected => Confirmed -- Getting Started - a gripe https://launchpad.net/bugs/67036 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 67036] Re: Getting Started - a gripe
the ISO image contains everything you need to create a bootable CD. If you have a CD-RW (burner), and you double click the ISO file, and the software for the burner is installed correctly, it should automatically go. If not, burning the ISO image will depend on which software you use with your burner. Why not help us produce some proper documentation? If you have the time to write up 3 paragraphs complaining about the current state of documentation, then maybe you have the time to write 3 paragraphs explaining what an ISO is and the minimal requirements is a CD-RW, XP or burning software, and a blank CD. However, this is not a bug, more or less a call for support. I am willing to work with you in order to get your "bootable CD" going. If you feel this is a bug, I would recommend that you open another, with more specifics, and less YELLING. Thank you. ** Changed in: ubuntu-doc (upstream) Status: Unconfirmed => Rejected -- Getting Started - a gripe https://launchpad.net/bugs/67036 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
