The dependency on latex-xft-fonts is still missing in Feisty, and so LyX is still horribly broken looking out of the box. Apparently this is fixed in version 1.3.4-2, according to a LyX changelog: http://packages.debian.org/changelogs/pool/main/l/lyx/lyx_1.3.4-2/changelog However, the version in Feisty does not have this correction, which means it is as broken as that released in Edgy. I installed the latex-xft-fonts package, but still I can't see math symbols. This bug report helped me a lot, thank you. In Dapper there was indeed a dependence of lyx-qt on latex-xft-fonts. In Edgy, however, latex-xft- fonts is only in Recommended and thus not installed by default. When lyx doesn't have the font for some tex commends it substitutes red text. Do you have the package latex-xft-fonts installed? I think this should provide nice looking fonts for you. hmmm - I don't think there was that dependance in dapper either. The maintainers of this package are listed as the Debian LyX Maintainers who probably don't read launchpad. I suggest you report a bug to them.
