This is not a bug indeed. FAT32 doesn't support files larger than 4GiB.

Freeing disk space wget seems to complete with no further problems

It's the filesize limitation in the win32 file sytem it was being saved
to a usb drive formatted as fat32

-rwx-- 1 simon simon 4294967295 2006-11-28 11:07 debian-testing-i386
-DVD-binary-1.iso

So I guess not strictly a bug..

but annoying that it take 2 hours to find you are saving to a fileystem
that will not support the large file ;)
