Could you try with 2.16.1-0ubuntu3 from edgy-proposed or 2.16.1-0ubuntu4
when it'll have been accepted to edgy-updates and built? They have a fix
for a monitoring loop

I have found myself in a similar boat, I don't know if I caused it the
same way, but I have seen nautilus suddenly spike to 100% cpu and hold
until restarted, I'm trying to see if its a thumbnailing issue (there
used to be a big one with .gif files) or what, but it happens.
