[Bug 73990] Re: Xnest recommends using a universe package

2007-01-23 Thread Charles Perreault
First, Xephyr is a better than Xnest and should be used instead of
Xephyr so the recommandation is good. Why is Xephyr only a Universe...
I don't know maybe it's not mature / stable enough. I personally
reported several Xephyr bugs but only one Xnest bug to this date.

As for the symbolic link, Xephyr and Xnest don't use the same command
switches (like -screen vs -geometry), so Xephyr cannot replace perfectly
Xnest. A Xnest symbolic link to Xephyr is therefore not a good idea
as some softwares and wrappers won't work as expected, and users won't
understand why. Also, all script trying to ps / kill / killall Xnest
won't succeed as the binary would be Xephyr.

Users should install both for now, and tsclient and other wrappers
should be modified to use Xephyr in the future.

[Bug 73990] Re: Xnest recommends using a universe package

2007-01-03 Thread Craig Sampson
Not only that, but if you choose the recommended option and install
Xephyr no link is made in /usr/bin to reflect that Xephyr is acting as
Xnest, the result of which is that applications like tsclient still
think that no xnest is available.
