I have solved the problem. In my case I uninstalled completly the program from the repository, but I had to uninstall it completly that means to delete all the files related with firestarter. Then I reinstalled it from the repositories and it worked. I have almost the same problem. I installed it once correctly, but while I was trying to configure it properly, the program started to fail.
