I was just hit by this one as well. For me, this was triggered by watching the Dr. WHO preview on this page, and clicking the fullscreen option. http://weblog.fok.nl/viewSingleItem/35203/Doctor-Who%3A-een-voorproefje.htm The screen froze, but the system kept operating as usual. I used ctrl+alt+f1 to open a terminal to investigate the problem and trigger a reboot.
