This bug still holds for Ubuntu 11.10 default VLC installation. Encountered on several different machines. I'm affected by this bug. I will play an mp3 or video file in VLC and it will often stutter very briefly just after starting and occasionally mid-playback further on. If it affets Totem too, then it's probably a bug in underlying audio stuff, namely PulseAudio or ALSA. I am also having problem with stuttering audio when watching (rather low-res) videos in vlc. The audio is like it's having some strange echo effect applied to it, making speech unintelligible. Well looks it's not just MP3 files, but also video files like MKV and AVI.
