[Bug 769639] Re: Xorg freeze

2012-03-24 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Sebastian Haselbeck, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the
latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach
updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be
great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the
upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be
done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the
bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.
Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 769639] Re: Xorg freeze

2011-09-07 Thread phillamg
No freeze in over a week now with lowlatency kernel. I'd test further
but unfortunately it's my main machine in work!

Sebastian: Can you rename the bug to something like Hard Freeze
(kernel) on Lenovo Thinkpad 13 AMD Turion as it's a bit more relevant
and might help others find it...

[Bug 769639] Re: Xorg freeze

2011-08-31 Thread phillamg
So far (a day and a half in) I haven't had a crash when using the Low Latency
kernel from this PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~abogani/+archive/ppa

I did read some things from last year about Thinkpads / ATI working
better with a RealTime kernel but this is no longer maintained as a PPA.
Apparently the LL kernel supersedes it.

[Bug 769639] Re: Xorg freeze

2011-08-26 Thread phillamg
Just happened again, screen freezes for 1-2 seconds then goes black. All
keyboards and mouse actions don't work, including RESIUB.
Connected Android phone which did not recognise USB port (other than charge).
As soon as machine was powered off and POSTed it found a computer. Suggests
this is a kernel bug...

2011-05-20 Thread bugbot
We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the
original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to
reopen with the requested information. Also, if you could, please test against
the latest development version of Ubuntu, since this confirms the bug is one we
may be able to pass upstream for help.

[Bug 769639] Re: Xorg freeze

2011-04-25 Thread Bryce Harrington
Even though you say this is a bug in the free driver, the logs you
posted are for -fglrx, so it's a bit confused. Please refile the bug
when using only the open source xserver-xorg-video-ati driver. The best
way is to reproduce the freeze and then ssh into the machine and run
'ubuntu-bug xorg'. At least, collect dmesg from when the machine is
frozen.

If you experience the same freeze with both -fglrx and -ati, or if you
cannot ssh into the machine, then the problem is more likely to be
something wrong in the kernel. File the bug report as 'ubuntu-bug
linux' in that case.

[Bug 769639] Re: Xorg freeze

2011-04-25 Thread Sebastian Haselbeck
I experienced the bug with both the free and the other driver.

I just press the power button for a few seks, which kills the machine
and start anew... not sure what you mean by whehter I can ssh into the
machine. The moment I have a freeze I cannot do anything

hard to isolate the problem, too. havent been able to nail down where it
comes from.

why is it the flgrx installer now? sorry for beeing a n00b but it is
hard to report a bug to the correct project without knowing the origin
of the problem all I want to see is the bug fixed, happy to answer

disagree with the classification of this under ATI since it also
happened with the free driver, not just the proprietary ATI driver
