[Bug 769639] Re: Xorg freeze
Sebastian Haselbeck, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. ** Tags added: hw-specific needs-upstream-testings ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/769639 Title: Xorg freeze To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/769639/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 769639] Re: Xorg freeze
No freeze in over a week now with lowlatency kernel. I'd test further but unfortunately it's my main machine in work! [Bug 769639] Re: Xorg freeze
So far (a day and a half in) I haven't had a crash when using the Low Latency kernel from this PPA: https://launchpad.net/~abogani/+archive/ppa I did read some things from last year about Thinkpads / ATI working better with a RealTime kernel but this is no longer maintained as a PPA. Apparently the LL kernel supersedes it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/769639 Title: Xorg freeze To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/769639/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Just happened again, screen freezes for 1-2 seconds then goes black. All keyboards and mouse actions don't work, including RESIUB. We're closing this bug since it is has been some time with no response from the original reporter. However, if the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. @Sebastian, xserver-xorg-video-ati is the free driver. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/769639 Title: Xorg freeze -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 769639] Re: Xorg freeze
Even though you say this is a bug in the free driver, the logs you posted are for -fglrx, so it's a bit confused. Please refile the bug when using only the open source xserver-xorg-video-ati driver. The best way is to reproduce the freeze and then ssh into the machine and run 'ubuntu-bug xorg'. At least, collect dmesg from when the machine is frozen. If you experience the same freeze with both -fglrx and -ati, or if you cannot ssh into the machine, then the problem is more likely to be something wrong in the kernel. File the bug report as 'ubuntu-bug linux' in that case. ** Package changed: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) = fglrx-installer (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/769639 Title: Xorg freeze -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 769639] Re: Xorg freeze
I experienced the bug with both the free and the other driver. I just press the power button for a few seks, which kills the machine and start anew... not sure what you mean by whehter I can ssh into the machine. The moment I have a freeze I cannot do anything hard to isolate the problem, too. havent been able to nail down where it comes from. ** Changed in: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu) Status: Invalid = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/769639 Title: Xorg freeze -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
