[Bug 77214] Re: Speakers volume set to zero by default (Fujitsu Lifebook S7020)
The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test: 1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux- image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test. --or-- 2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD. Please let us know immediately if this newer 2.6.27 kernel resolves the bug reported here or if the issue remains. More importantly, please open a new bug report for each new bug/regression introduced by the 2.6.27 kernel and tag the bug report with 'linux-2.6.27'. Also, please specifically note if the issue does or does not appear in the 2.6.26 kernel. Thanks again, we really appreicate your help and feedback. ** Tags added: cft-2.6.27 -- Speakers volume set to zero by default (Fujitsu Lifebook S7020) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/77214 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 77214] Re: Speakers volume set to zero by default (Fujitsu Lifebook S7020)
I'm new to Ubuntu and I guess you could call me a Linux newbe as well, However since I experienced this problem and there is no direct solution for this bug written here I decided to post my experience. I installed Hardy on a FS Lifebook S7020. No sound was heard after completion of the installation or when using the Live CD. I worked around this problem by double-clicking the master volume icon in X. After I upped the volume of the internal speaker which was set to 0 sound was played through the speakers of the machine. Ps. First I tried to accomplish this by using alsamixer (in a console) as suggested in the debugging guide. However I was probably unable to change the volume of the internal speakers as nothing happened after I unmuted and upped the levels of all available volumes. -- Speakers volume set to zero by default (Fujitsu Lifebook S7020) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/77214 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 77214] Re: Speakers volume set to zero by default (Fujitsu Lifebook S7020)
I can confirm this since I have just received a lifebook S7021 (should be nearly identical to the S7020 but sold in different countries). After a fresh install of Hardy and in Linux Mint 5 this bug is present. Not to mention the headphone and mic jacks do not seem to work. I'll post back after some more digging. ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: Invalid = Confirmed -- Speakers volume set to zero by default (Fujitsu Lifebook S7020) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/77214 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

In your digging if you could include the output requested at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems that would be great. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: None = linux Importance: Undecided = Low Assignee: Brian Murray (brian-murray) = (unassigned) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- Speakers volume set to zero by default (Fujitsu Lifebook S7020) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/77214 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 77214] Re: Speakers volume set to zero by default (Fujitsu Lifebook S7020)
Matthew could you please test with a Gutsy Live CD and add the output requested at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DebuggingSoundProblems as attachments? This will allow us to look at getting it fixed for Gutsy. Thanks in advance. ** Changed in: Ubuntu Status: Invalid = Incomplete -- Speakers volume set to zero by default (Fujitsu Lifebook S7020) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/77214 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. There is a new version of Feisty Fawn available, Herd 5 (http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/herd5), and we would be interested to find out if this issue still exists with it.
