Somehow reverting v86d to older version fixes it for me, So it may be possible that there is something wrong with frambuffer control. I have been facing this problem on my Dell inspiron for like the last 2 months, i thought it had something to do with my battery, since it showed checking battery state after it logs out. This problem has become very annoying logging out every now and then, 4-5 times in the last hour. did anyone get any deeper into issue? i have few questions: Are you using v86d deamon for nice tty virtualization? which wm/dm are you using? ary you using any framebuffer at all? Now that we have some better backtraces (thanks Maciej!), what I think most people are seeing is bug #774978. Sarvatt came up with a fix for that, which I've uploaded to oneiric and natty-proposed today. Seems likely that will resolve the problem for most people on this bug report, so I'm going to set this as a dupe. It might take a bit of time for the fix to percolate through the SRU process to natty-updates so if you find this annoying you might want to enable -proposed to get the fix (or upgrade to oneiric early!) However, like I mentioned, Fernando has a different crash trace. That shows a nearly perfect backtrace, but we're missing symbols for the first two calls (which is probably where the crash is): #0 0x0057ffb4 in pixman_region_equal () from /usr/lib/libpixman-1.so.0 No symbol table info available. #1 0x0018e798 in ?? () from /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/openchrome_drv.so No symbol table info available. Can you install the dbgsym packages for pixman and the openchrome driver and do it once more? Also, I should also mention your backtrace is completely different than what's shown in other people's Xorg.0.log.old so is probably some other unrelated X crash. (Like I mention, every type of X crash results in the same thing - dropping you back to the login screen). Your syslog also shows that the kernel is very sick (but not in the graphics drm stack). This has nothing to do with Chromium. Full Ack! Has absolutely nothing to do with Chromium or any Browser based on it. As I already wrote, I had a logout after booting normally and only clicking on Appearance inside the Dash Menu. Nothing else was started. Bryce, here another gdb session with traceback on the crash, this time trying to volume up Totem. I think I have found the pixman dbg package, but not one for openchrome. I can't find a package for openchrome dbg. Affecting me on a Compaq C700, and afecting 2 friends with Acer notebooks. I figured out than by running dpkg --reconfigure xserver-xorg the problem becomes less frequent. I can confirm this happens over on my side too. Im using a Sony Vaio NR series notebook with an integrated intel card. The auto logouts usually happen when im using Firefox. One minute im browsing, the next im greeted with the login screen. A very, very, annoying and frustrating bug. I had similar problem when I used the Leadtek nVidia GT220 graphic card on my desktop with the nVidia proprietary driver available from the Ubuntu repository. I have the same problem on a Gateway ID49C07U. Problem didn't exist with Maverick on the same laptop, and it is seemingly random. Can't pin it down to any specific event. I agree with Gabriele. This is actually beyond annoying. This is probably the most frustrating bug I've ever had during my 4 years as full time Ubuntu user. Most of the time when it crashes, I happen to be in the middle of an important work, and there is no way to recover the lost work/pages. The developers can't fix this bug if it's not reproducible. Random logout is too much generic: the problem can be anywhere. We already know that this bug happens with 32 and 64 bits systems, it's not unity specific (also happens with classic session) and it's not related to any special application that is running. We don't need more Me too comments, but we need the steps to reproduce (or, at least, we need to know where the problem happens). It's probably a duplicate of bug #740785 (a bug in xorg server), but we need logs to confirm this. I'm also having this issue with Linux Mint 11 64 bit (based on 11.04). This occurs w/ my Lenovo t520, intel i5 processor, integrated graphics. It has occurred both with Chrome (stable) and Chromium. I've tried reinstalling both but there is still issues. Seems to occur when I'm using flash (using flashplugin square) but it happened once when I was just opening up the mint menu. I'm usually just on AC power and the computer is only 2 months old (I'm pretty sure the Power supply is fine). this started happening a week ago. this only occurs when I click something, usually when switching web pages or opening multiple browser windows. I haven't had this problem in three days after I tried something: Power Management - Preferences - On Battery Power Uncheck the Spin down hard disks when possible. Save and exit. In the same boat here. HW: MSI GT 660 with GTX285M Problem: Frequent auto logouts. I suspect xorg crash due to some condition. Pattern: Running on 80-100% battery. Firefox running. Click on a flash video. Video starts. Auto logout at the start of video or after 2-3 seconds. Workaround: Plug-in power and the battery is charging. Dont see the random logout. (This workaround could be just a misleading one. But it is working for me at the moment.) xsession-errors: I do see some fatal errors in the log. Log attached for anybody whio wants to help out. I don't think anymore that it's triggered by clicking (alone). I just opened Thunderbird and it was loading my mails and then while not clicking anything I was logged out (definitely long after clicking to open Thunderbird). Maybe we all think it's (only) triggered by clicking because when you surf on the Internet you do a lot of clicking. And when you are logged out what was the last thing you can remember doing? Clicking a link or something else. So I'm affected too. On a Dell Inspiron 640m with Intel hardware (processor/chipset/video). Seems to happen most while using Chrome, on Natty 64 bit. It happens completely irregularly and is not reproducable until now. It happens mostly when I'm using a lot programs at the same time. The strange thing however, is that it only happened on my own profile. I can't even really define the source of the problem as it happens randomly when I click on something in the panel bar, may it be the sound indicator applet, or clicking on the menu of firefox, or any other application I'm using. Just to add myself to the dog-pile... Toshiba Satellite L500. Fresh install of 11.04 x64. Never happened with any other distro. Totally random. Only commonality is selecting/confirming something in any application. I have also noticed my wireless drops occasionally and I have to restart to reconnect. That is new as well, but may just be another of the myriad bugs with this release. No-one is assigned to this issue so it may be a while. today after i booted up natty 32bit, the look of the panel on the top was grey like in windows 95. then i opened dash and entered appearance. after clicking on appearance, it crashed again and logged me out. Last thing I saw in the terminal window before system logs me out was an error from pulseaudio. Some websites have sound in their banners, activated by java controls or activeX. I also remember it happening when I changed the wallpaper. I've done 2 fresh installs of 11.04, and I haven't made any modifications to my system beyond installing some applications (gimp, pidgin, chromium, gftp) On both installs, I was affected by this bug. System randomly logs me out. Most often while browsing, (my main browser is chromium) sometimes the system even logs out while the computer is idle. It will happen multiple times. The log out then log back in work around does not work for me. My current session has logged out on me 3 times this evening. Fugitsu lifebook. I run a 64-bit Maverick with nVidia card as well. In my case, the bug seems to disappear after upgrading nVidia binary drivers to 270.41.06 using ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates. I've seen this without Chrome running at all. It is happening once or twice a day, which really makes my machine unusable, as my VirtualBox sessions are killed each time. In response to Ben Lin, I was under the impression that the 64 bit version of ubuntu was called amd64 only because amd had 64 bit CPU's on the market before intel and it was named at that time. That being said, I am not an expert and I too am running the amd64 version on an intel CPU, so there may be something to it. I have noticed that people have experienced this problem with multiple types of graphics cards, so I am guessing that is not related. I can confirm that in a Dell XPS 17 with Nvidia GeForce GT 555M graphic card. I had that happen three times. The first one was after installing Nvidia restricted drivers. They downloaded/installed correctly and before I could restart to complete the installation it just spontaneously logged out and I think that messed up the installation because my graphic acceleration stopped working after restarting. I don't remember what was I on the second time it happened but the third one followed this chain of events... Seeing this regularly, up to twice a day, on my Thinkpad x201 running 64 bit 11.04. I have the same problem.
