2008-08-24 Thread Mackenzie Morgan
Is this still reproducible on Hardy or Intrepid? Edgy is no longer
supported.

[Bug 77953] Re: Edgy (i386 desktop) install fails to boot when installed to a SCSI disk (initrd missing aic drivers)

2007-01-04 Thread Andy Brook
I've just looked in the (initramfs) shell that is dropped to on a failed
boot under the folder:

/lib/modules/2.6.17-10-generic/kernel/drivers/scsi/aic7xxx/ is
present, the files aic7xxx.ko and aic79xx.ko are also present.

I tried inserting the module by hand with insmod aic7xxx but I got an
'Invalid module format' error message for both.

are these modules somehow not compiled for i386?

I've seen ubuntu posts mention the failing to install to SCSI and
methods to solve it (rebuild initrd) but this can only be done *after*
you have a system that can boot, which doesn't help people installing to
SCSI
