In Calc: 
Situation: cell A1 has a number typed in as text w apostrophe beginning such as 
 '123 
 
This cell gives diffenrent results in functions. SUM(A1) gives zero answer, but 
=A1 gives a value of 123.

This can be misleading, especially when the apostrophe is not shown on
the sheet. I suggest the numerical functions always try first to convert
text to numbers.
