Furthermore I built stack-inspector and stack-print from the following branch: lp:~smspillaz/+junk/stackinspector and it's pretty clear that the launcher is last window in the windows stack (see _NET_CLIENT_LIST_STACKING (stacking order)). ** Attachment added: tree_details.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/809897/+attachment/2385385/+files/tree_details.txt ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/809897 Title: Unity launcher appears UNDER windows though screencap shows it on top of windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/shutter/+bug/809897/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 809897] Re: Unity launcher appears UNDER windows though screencap shows it on top of windows
@Mario: probably not, but the reason I filed it with Shutter as well was because what I got with shutter was NOT what I was seeing on screen. That may well be simply be part of the Unity issue though, I was erring on the side of caution WRT to shutter. If you're sure it's not at all shutter related, feel free to mark that part invalid :) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/809897 Title: Unity launcher appears UNDER windows though screencap shows it on top of windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/shutter/+bug/809897/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 809897] Re: Unity launcher appears UNDER windows though screencap shows it on top of windows
Any love for this? I'd really like to see this resolved for Oneiric as it is a pretty bad UI usability issue. The whole point of the launcher on the left side was better use of screen realestate, but if I can't use the launcher because I'm using the screen's real estate, what's the point? As added information: I currently have Thunderbird maximized and it's taking up the entire screen. As long as any application is either maximized or is not maximised but has any part of its window resting inside the area on the left side where the launcher would appear, the launcher will appear BENEATH that/those application(s). I've attached a video demonstrating this behaviour that I took just now on a thinkpad x201. ** Attachment added: 100_0008.MOV https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity/+bug/809897/+attachment/2262285/+files/100_0008.MOV -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/809897 Title: Unity launcher appears UNDER windows though screencap shows it on top of windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/shutter/+bug/809897/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 809897] Re: Unity launcher appears UNDER windows though screencap shows it on top of windows
Hi Jeff, You forgot to include the screenshot from Shutter. Also some apport- collect would probably be useful to see what graphics card, Unity version etc you're using. ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/809897 Title: Unity launcher appears UNDER windows though screencap shows it on top of windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/shutter/+bug/809897/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 809897] Re: Unity launcher appears UNDER windows though screencap shows it on top of windows
Look at the photo again. Notice at the bottom (which is actually the left side of my screen) you'll see that the launcher is clearly visible, yet beneath all the open windows. Notice at the top (which is the right side of my screen) you'll see the shutter window displaying the screen cap I took using Shutter. SO, what this is showing is that while Shutter thinks that the launcher and app lens are on top of everything, they are actually below everything. That being said, I did forget to use apport-collect, so thanks for reminding me... ** Changed in: unity (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = New ** Tags added: apport-collected natty possible-manual-nvidia-install running-unity ubuntu ** Description changed: Weird behaviour with Unity launcher. I run a fair number of windows during the day, Chrome, a couple terminator sessions, IRC, mumble and so forth. I usually maximize the chrome window and use the app switcher in compiz to swap between the other windows. What I've found is that at some point after I've been running for a while, the Unity launcher stops appearing on top of everything. Instead, it appears under all windows. Unfortunately, the graphics system seems to think this is not the case. I tried several screenshots and every single one showed the launcher and the app lens on top of everything, even though to me, it appeared below everything. So, I'm attaching a photo taken with a digital camera. If you look closely at the photo, you'll notice a couple of things. First, there's a Shutter window open showing one of the screen caps that clearly shows the launcher and app lens on top. BUT if you look just to the left, you'll see that in fact, the launcher is actually BEHIND the terminator window. Try as I might, every screencap shows the launcher as it SHOULD be, not as I actually see it. - I'm running natty with latest updates and the nVidia binary drivers. - This is on an Alienware M15x with an nVidia GeForce GT240M card. + I'm running natty with latest updates and the nVidia binary drivers.
