Thanks, closing since there's no way to reproduce this bug with a
current version of Kubuntu.

We'd like to figure out what's causing this bug for you, but we haven't
heard back from you in a while. Could you please provide the requested
information? Thanks!

[Bug 81099] Re: Bad management of CMYK files (detected as RGB)

2009-02-12 Thread jayeseay

color profiles are controlled in part by specifications not on the user log in
, in order to make a global change in color management some of the problem is
in translation of the icc profile.

case in point, trying loading new ICC profiles through the user share
and then open another CMYK capable program it crashes some of them
because even though the profile is there ...the correct linking on the
program is not. This could only be done being root and knowing what to
do to link the specific color profile, usually defined sometimes in xml
files...

little cms only has certain ones that even though they are near close
to adobe they are not prescribed to the program through the links of
having the color profile aloneother configuration must be done.

in other words it is not that it is not working. at this point
there isn't an integration completely of Adobe profiles ...ISO WEB
COATED is almost completely the same as the adobe SWOP v2 for offset
printing and nearly the same name but it is not completely

just as photoshop ingrains itself in the OS so does Krita so some user
changes cannot be made
to make the profiles work even though it seems possible its part of a larger
change that needs to be madeits possible it falls in to changes made while
logged in as Root. It would be quite the time consuming process to add to the
pre packaged linux color profile system that is somewhat linked to cups. Right?

its better to go outside of a program that creates documents in a particular
CMYK mode and just go
to the throat by finding a suitable program to open them with such as a PDF
program ...

or one that edits PDF

or use a service to convert RGB to CMYK after the document has been
shared before print

it's almost asinine to share CMYK documents instead of RGB ones before
it goes to print

Its neither going to look the same as print on a monitor or effect it on a
high level if viewed as RGB before print conversion is made later .in fact
it makes more sense to use sRGB space
and share it that way so editing can be done to make it CMYK just before
print

being able to Preview CMYK on a monitor can be done by simply dropping
percents of Black so it
is not Pure black and removing Pure White so none of the colors are impossible
ones

you can proof against a color profile in Gimp and see what it looks like while
its still sRGB
it will mark the out of gamut colors

or simply convert it to CMYK in Krita

Mind you that most people can only open image files in 8 bit channels
anyway and higher levels such as 48 (16) bit require you have the same
software anyway...you end up diluting the image in some sense by
hoping programs.

PDF is still the better way of looking at it because it punches out the
flaws of sharing. PDF works all around for images both Open Source and
PC and Mac all recognize it.

You can color manage FireFox now for goodness sake quit relying on
obtuse methods for viewing an image in colors you do not need to with a
program it wasn't meant for.

[Bug 81099] Re: Bad management of CMYK files (detected as RGB)

2008-09-20 Thread terzag
The bug occured to me quite some time ago and I very rarely use Krita.
It might have already been fixed. Of course, I don't have the
problematic files anymore.

I'll try to download 8.10 alpha and use it with VirtualBox (although I
think I read somewhere that it couldn't boot in VirtualBox currently
because of a bug) to see if I can reproduce the problem.

Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 alpha?

[Bug 81099] Re: Bad management of CMYK files (detected as RGB)

2007-01-23 Thread terzag
More info :
After a few tests, it seems that most of the pictures I've been sent are
correctly recognized as CMYK by Krita.
Only a few of them have problem and if I open them in Photoshop, they're
detected as RGB too but the bits per chanel in the titlebar is 8# instead of
just 8. I don't know where the problem comes from (if a Photoshop user can
tell what the # means, it would help).
The person that sent me the pictures tells me that when he opens them in
Photoshop on his PC they're in CMYK so it may be a very specific problem.
