I'm sorry we haven't looked at this bug in-depth for this long -- If anyone is still experiencing this issue, please try to suspend your computer while running the gnome-classic session without effects. Be advised, 11.10 is nearing end-of-life. It would be best if the original bug poster could see if his/her issue remains in 12.04+. I'll concur that on my machine the screen lock has not yet even actually locked the screen when resume completes. If you still have a kernel from Natty on the machine could you boot with that and see if the suspend is any different. If so could we get a dmesg from that added here. In order to boot to different kernels I have to uninstall nvidia-current. With doing this, i get thrown into unity-2d, in which suspend works as expected. I can't get unity 3D to run properly, also not on older kernels without the nvidia-current driver.
