[Bug 833547] Re: xrandr shuts down external HDMI display

2011-08-25 Thread Dmitry Kasatkin
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

I started to have problem with external display after I upgraded kernel
  to 2.6.38-11-generic-pae.

When I call xrandr to reconfigure my displays, HDMI monitor goes to
standby on my DELL E6120 laptop.

  It has following display adapter:
  --
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core
Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA
controller])
  Subsystem: Dell Device 0493
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 42
  Memory at e140 (64-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4M]
  Memory at d000 (64-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M]
  I/O ports at 4000 [size=64]
  Expansion ROM at unassigned [disabled]
  Capabilities: access denied
  Kernel driver in use: i915
  Kernel modules: i915

  Step leading to the problem:
  1. Boot laptop normally with HDMI monitor connected - HDMI monitor goes on
  2. Login to the Gnome - HDMI monitor is still on
  3. Now I try to switch primary display to hdmi monitor with xrandr:
  xrandr --output HDMI1 --left-of LVDS1 --auto --primary

With older kernels everything goes fine.
But with 2.6.38-11-generic-pae it shuts monitor...
It goes to standby mode and says that no signal...

[Bug 833547] Re: xrandr shuts down external HDMI display

2011-08-25 Thread Dmitry Kasatkin
Little bit more clarification.

When system boots, I can see console on external display.
But when X starts, external display goes to standby

With older kernel everything was fine.
xrandr does not here in anyway

If I go to console with Ctrl-Alt-F1, it will not help...

When I do logout, then external display goes up and shows.
But if I login again, then it goes standby again...
