NetworkManager is a dbus service, so dbus starts it. If you want to
restart NetworkManager manually, you can just kill it and run "sudo
NetworkManager" and it will connect to DBUS and be ready to go.

I just had to kill -9 NetworkManager since it ate up all CPU time. When
trying to restart it, I encountered some problems. Neither was there a
script in /etc/init.d, nor did the upstart "start" command work. I think
there should be a way to manually start and stop NetworkManager.
