[Bug 838040] Re: Wubi installer fails to run after choosing install inside windows
Good news, the Wubi install completed successfully. No glitches at all other than the way ubiquity handles the reboot after selecting "install inside windows" and clicking on "continue". The photo attached in my last post is of the screen following those steps. Then the CD is not ejected and there is no prompt to remove CD or press enter to reboot. I tried every key-combo I could imagine and the only way to reboot was to use the reset button on the box. The photo I'm including here is what happens with Natty, which then also ejects the CD and instructs to press enter. Does that make sense? To be very clear the photo attached to comment #1 is that of Ubuntu Oneiric 20110901-i386 (the broken behavior) where the disc is not ejected and I couldn't reboot. The photo attached to this comment is of Natty behavior which works fine. Hope that helps, not sure how we'd word this in the release notes for Beta 1? ** Attachment added: "IMG_4354.JPG" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/838040/+attachment/2339000/+files/IMG_4354.JPG -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/838040 Title: Wubi installer fails to run after choosing install inside windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/838040/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 838040] Re: Wubi installer fails to run after choosing install inside windows
OK, after asking some questions, I found out that Wubi doesn't support Lubuntu (or vice versa) so I don't know what the plans are there? I suppose technically that ubiquity shouldn't offer the option to install inside Windows with Lubuntu, but I'm also sure tweaking ubiquity for each specific flavor of Ubuntu would be a nightmare. So maybe I should open a separate bug stating that ubiquity offers an invaild option from the Lubuntu live CD? I'll do whatever I'm told ;^) I honestly think Lubuntu's target audience won't so much be those with newer OEM PCs that are likely to have 4 NTFS or FAT partitions anyway. But onto Ubuntu, I decided to repeat the test with the Ubuntu live 20110901-i386 image and it works as expected .. almost. I'm including a picture of the screen after clicking "continue" having selected "install inside windows". There is no prompt to remove disc, which is not automatically ejected, and no prompt to press enter or anything. In fact removing the CD and pressing enter does nothing. I had to hit the reset button on the PC but when Windows did reboot and finish loading the Wubi installation screen did appear as it should. Why I didn't get that with the Ubuntu 20110831-i386 iso I don't know??? I was tired and Windows XP takes a long time to become "usable" after booting, perhaps due to the anti-virus and other junkware, so maybe I just got impatient :^( Hopefully the included picture will be helpful, I'll try to complete the Wubi install soon. ** Attachment added: "IMG_4364.JPG" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/838040/+attachment/2338830/+files/IMG_4364.JPG -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/838040 Title: Wubi installer fails to run after choosing install inside windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/838040/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
