Public bug reported:

The text in indicator-session is correctly reflecting the status of
updates. But a user can only see that status when clicking on the
indicator, which, of course is not a natural thing because normally,
there's no need for the user to do that.

It would be better if the icon reflects the status by colouring it, say
yellow. Then the attention is drawn to the icon and everything else
follows. Colouring this icon is already done when requiring a reboot
(the icon turns red), so technically and functionally there should be no
problem.

As a bonus, the indicator could send a notification, stating the
existence of pending updates.
