Oddly enough, it happens only with Google search results. For the first time I thought it was a Google problem, but I was never able to reproduce it with any other browser. Since then I have observed it twice on Windows XP (at work). On Ubuntu it occurs every three or four searches and sometimes I must reload pages three or more times. The problem seems to be not connected with graphic adapter driver (a week or two after installation switched to NVidia driver--no observable change occured), nor compiz/Emerald (installed a few days ago, and no change either). Configuration: ASRock K7S8X, Athlon XP 2200+ (1800 MHz), 1 GB RAM, kernel 2.6.22-14-generic, nVidia GeForce2 ddr with driver NVIDIA Linux x86 Kernel Module 1.0-9639 Mon Apr 1 2007 (heh, very funny, indeed). GNOME 2.20.1. Firefox identifying itself as: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; pl-PL; rv:1.8.1.11) Gecko/20071204 Ubuntu/7.10 (gutsy) Firefox/2.0.0.11. Installed plugins: AdBlock Plus 0.7.5.3, del.icio.us 1.2.1, ScrapBook 1.3.2, ubufox 0.4~beta1. No themes. Im using Debian SID (so FF changed to iceweasel now). The problem persists. Maybe interesting could be the following fact: I had a DELL notebook and changed to a Thinkpad some time ago. They have very different hardware configuriation (Nvidia/ATI). So the problem seems to be independent of hardware components to me. But I copied my mozilla-profile from the old laptop to new Thinkpad - so this could be a problem with the profile... I set up Debian from scratch on the new laptop. So, I don't think this has anything to do with libraries. I can confirm that it's independent of extensions. I'm using KDE without desktop effects (no AIGLX). I'm custom KDE themes (someone mentioned it could has somthing to do with themes). It's a very annoying bug. I always thought I was the only guy experiencing this issue, glad to meet you all in here :) So the best thing is to find similarities of all affected users - please post more information about your configurations with could be important. Restarting Xorg had no effect either, bug occured on the 3rd tab I opened. Only thing I can add to the mix of oddities is that this happened after ~7days of uptime, 'top' shows 140M/1G free. The problem still exists on firefox 2.0.0.6. Due to the fact that only a few of the firefox users are experiencing this issue. I suspect it might be a hardware specific problem. And I've sent some emails asking people about their hardware configuration. Unfortunately I was not able to get enough replies. I can also confirm this problem (glad to finally see I'm not the only one). Unfortunately it is notoriously difficult to reproduce since it seems to occur rather randomly. Sometimes I can go a week without any problems, then suddenly it may happen several times per day. I can also confirm that this problem is not linked to any extensions or plugins, since it still happens when running firefox with a clean profile and all plugins disabled. It's still happening now and then on my machine. I've tried several versions, including 2.0.0.3+1-0ubuntu2, 2.0.0.4+1-0ubuntu1 and 2.0.0.4 tarball version downloaded from mozilla.com. I agree with Alexander that it might be caused by an extension. Unfortunately I have more than 10 extensions installed and I can't locate the bad one. The problem happens quite randomly. Every time it happens and I restart firefox , it will disappear for quite a while and I have no idea when it's gonna happen again. Maybe we can all provide our installed extension list and see if there's something useful. I've never run firefox in safe mode for very long.But so far I never run into the problem in safe mode either. Uninstalling the extensions one by one would just take quite a few days as the problem does't happen regularly, sometimes once in two days ,sometimes in a couple of minutes. It's difficult to determine when it's safe to say an uninstalled extension is innocent. Of course, getting lists of other users that run into this might allow us to match the bad extension. But if you need a fix now, better try yourself. Yeah, I'll try. Currently I disable most extensions except firebug and web developer , both of which are in heavy use so I can hardly live without them. I'll wait for a few days before I enable the next extension. I'll give my report back if I find something helpful. I can confirm this problem on Fiesty running 2.0.0.3 often I will click a link from google and it will download everything but the google search page will still be displayed instead of the new page, but the title and url have been updated.
