[Bug 86635] Re: Unable to install herd 4 on Toshiba S100 S1133 with SATA Hard Drive
Just tried to install the beta and still no joy, is there any special commands I need to direct to the kernel on the liveCD. -- Unable to install herd 4 on Toshiba S100 S1133 with SATA Hard Drive https://launchpad.net/bugs/86635 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Should be fixed with 2.6.20-12. ** Changed in: linux-source-2.6.20 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium Assignee: (unassigned) = Ben Collins Status: Needs Info = Fix Released -- Unable to install herd 4 on Toshiba S100 S1133 with SATA Hard Drive https://launchpad.net/bugs/86635 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 86635] Re: Unable to install herd 4 on Toshiba S100 S1133 with SATA Hard Drive
After some searching I found bug 19749 which seems to be the same bug I've reported. -- Unable to install herd 4 on Toshiba S100 S1133 with SATA Hard Drive https://launchpad.net/bugs/86635 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 86635] Re: Unable to install herd 4 on Toshiba S100 S1133 with SATA Hard Drive
Same problem with Toshiba Tecra S3. Ubuntu 6.10 installs fine and the laptop SATA chipset is handled correctly by kernel 2.6.17 through ahci driver. The problem arises with 7.04 Herd5. The disc is not found in the installation procedure. A workaround is: modprobe -r ata_piix modprobe -r ahci modprobe ahci At this point the disc is found and the installation process can go on, BUT when the system reboots no disc is found by the installed kernel, so the system is unusable. I suspect that is a Toshiba BIOS bug: there is no switch to choose the chipset ahci compatibility mode. Actually the chipset works in ahci mode but the kernel (at least the 2.6.20 kernel shipped with ubuntu) tries to handle the chipset with ata_piix driver and that fails. -- Unable to install herd 4 on Toshiba S100 S1133 with SATA Hard Drive https://launchpad.net/bugs/86635 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 86635] Re: Unable to install herd 4 on Toshiba S100 S1133 with SATA Hard Drive
Hi, thanks for reporting this. Failure to detect the SATA drive sounds like a kernel problem. It would be great it you could run the Live CD again and attach the output from these commands: * uname -a uname-a.log * dmesg dmesg.log * lspci -vvnn lspci-vvnn.log You might also want to read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelProblems ** Changed in: ubiquity (Ubuntu) Sourcepackagename: ubiquity = linux-source-2.6.20 Status: Unconfirmed = Needs Info -- Unable to install herd 4 on Toshiba S100 S1133 with SATA Hard Drive https://launchpad.net/bugs/86635 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
