[Bug 90261] Re: Volume Control plugin can't be added to xfce4-panel

2011-08-19 Thread billynoah
i recently upgraded to xfce 4.8 running ubuntu 10.04 and encountered
this issue. i can not add mixer to panel by adding items or by dragging
it on the panel. however, a simple workaround which worked for me was
to create a launcher item in the panel which runs /usr/bin/xfce4-mixer.

10.04 doesn't ship Xfce 4.8. If you've compiled it yourself, or
installed from a third-party repository, make sure you've upgraded panel
plugins as well, otherwise they won't work.

me, the same problem on XUbuntu 8.10, amd64. the last update i've done

This bug really has been around, apparently.

I am experiencing the same problem in Xubuntu Intrepid, but in my case,
it did not show up until after the upgrade to 4.4.3 an evening or so

The drag and drop method is functioning as a temporary workaround.

I may have found a work around. I am running Xubuntu 7.1 and using the
Mplayer plugin in Mozilla. As you described there is no volume control,
no link , ikon , or information link. While clicking around in the
applications menu I started XMMS and discovered that although there is
no input showing in the display the volume control built into its GUI
actually works. I guess this means that XMMS has set itself as the
default player but that Mozilla doesn't look there before starting the
Mplayer plugin. I hope this helps.

[Bug 90261] Re: Volume Control plugin can't be added to xfce4-panel

2007-12-08 Thread KnuX
The program 'xfce4-mixer-plugin' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied)'.
  (Details: serial 206 error_code 10 request_code 33 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

[Bug 90261] Re: Volume Control plugin can't be added to xfce4-panel

2007-11-18 Thread Jarno Suni
I use the volume control applet provided by xfce4-xfapplet-plugin now
that the plugin in xfce4-mixer does not work (in Gutsy). You can install
even many of these, e.g. one for capture. (Mute did not work for capture
like unchecking activate in qamix, though.) Changing themes might have
something to do with the failure in adding xfce4-mixer's volume control
to panel.

[Bug 90261] Re: Volume Control plugin can't be added to xfce4-panel

2007-10-27 Thread David Dent
In my case the offending panel items work fine unless I use a
horizontally orientated panel (top or bottom of screen) with one of the
following three themes.

Human
Outdoors
Silicone
These three themes are the only ones that use the ubuntulooks engine which
appears to come from package gtk2-engines-ubuntulooks.

If the panel is vertically oriented (left or right of screen) then the
panel items work with all themes.

If the panel is started under a different theme then switched to one of
the three above themes the panel items will continue to work.

[Bug 90261] Re: Volume Control plugin can't be added to xfce4-panel

2007-10-26 Thread runokiab
I can confirm this bug.

The drag-n-drop workaround works depending on your theme. That means, if you
have MurrinaStormCloud as your current theme it works, but if you use Human
instead it doesn't. So you need to set your theme to MurrinaStormCloud and
drag the mixer-plugin to the panel instead of clicking on Add.

2007-10-25 Thread garybrlow
Confirming this as well. Am on Xubuntu Gutsy Upgrade with compiz-fusion.
Every Xubuntu Distro I have used before since Dapper have had this
problem at some point. I was hoping this recurring problem would be
solved already in Gutsy but its still here. :P

Killing/restarting xfce4-panel and adding the control worked a few times
but now it refuses to be added again. Dragging the control to the panel
seems to work as of the moment.

I'm seeing this on Gutsy final. It seems to be dependent on the theme -
(Applications - settings - user interface - theme tab.) For example,
Human causes the crash (BadAlloc, rather than the BadAccess mentioned
in one report above), MurrinaStormCloud is OK.

[Bug 90261] Re: Volume Control plugin can't be added to xfce4-panel

2007-10-19 Thread Brian
I am running xubuntu gutsy, and the volume control still fails to appear on the
panel.
After installing gutsy on my vostro 1400 laptop, I added the volume control
plugin to xfce4-panel.
Then I modified /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-
base, adding the line options snd_hda_intel model=3stack in order to
get my speakers working, and rebooted. Upon logging back into xfce, the
volume control has dissapeared plugin has dissapeared. When I run xfce-
panel through the terminal, the output is as follows:

The program 'xfce4-mixer-plugin' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.

2007-10-19 Thread Dax Solomon Umaming
Thank you for reporting this bug and help make Ubuntu better. I confirm and
reproduce this bug. There seems to be different workarounds for different
users. Here's my workaround to get my Volume Control on the panel: I re-launch
xfce4-panel, then add it as usual. However, the volume control's missing after
reboot and I have to repeat the procedure. I'm not really sure what other
information you need, but please advise.
I'm changing Importance to Low since there's an existing workaround.
Thanks

Hello,

I have this bug too, on a Xubuntu 7.04. I don't have xbindkeys
installed, so this is not the real cause of the problem, at least for
me.

Dragging the mixer applet to the panel works, but I have to do it every
time I start an X session, which is kind of bothering.

Here's a (pruned) list of what's running on my computer. Do you spot
anything that might cause xfce4-mixer to crash, just like xbindkeys did
for the previous reporter?

2007-05-11 Thread picpak
After some more checking, it turns out it's not xscreensaver. I had
simply assumed it because it had loaded after closing it. The problem,
strangely enough, lies in xbindkeys.

Just configure your keys through Xfce's keyboard settings, and remove
xbindkeys from your list of startup programs. It's been working for me
ever since.

Do you, by any chance, have a file set to load xscreensaver in
SettingsAutostarted Applications? I had one that looked like this:

#!/bin/sh

sleep 1 conky
xscreensaver
xmodmap ~/.Xmodmap
xbindkeys
adesklets --xfce4
mpc update | mpc ls | mpc add | mpc shuffle

I removed the line xscreensaver , and it worked perfectly. Hope this
helps!

[Bug 90261] Re: Volume Control plugin can't be added to xfce4-panel

2007-05-06 Thread Nicki
Same problem here on Xubuntu 7.04

The program 'xfce4-mixer-plugin' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAccess (attempt to access private resource denied)'.
  (Details: serial 172 error_code 10 request_code 33 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

I can't reproduce this here. On which arch do you run Xubuntu?
