Public bug reported: When I plug in my cell phone LG Rumor Touch LN510, system appears to freeze until I have selected which USB mode (modem or mass storage) the phone it to operate in (menu on phone) or unplug the phone. It may primarily be freezing UAB keyboard and UAB mouse but other thing can be affected as well. Playing a video on youtube (firefox), audio continues but video does not.
It doesn't freeze up immediately when plugged in - it happens a quite a few seconds later. I was able to type "yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy" (individual keypresses, gnome-terminal) before the characters topped echoing to the terminal. If I plug in the phone and immediately press start on stopwatch(1), the stopwatch freeezes at 12.876 seconds when the rest of the system freezes. In another test, the stopwatch counted up to 33 seconds until I typed a key on the keyboard, then froze. keyboard echo and video playback both use video, so usb subsystem could be deadlocking the video driver somehow. I don't see that the two are sharing an interrupt. Possibly when X11 tries to read keyboard/mouse.
