I have this issue since upgrading to Ubuntu 9.10 from 9.04

The device causing it is a Rockey HID dongle. The effect on the server
is that MYSQL queries / apache hits take a long time to respond during

[Bug 91230] Re: keyboard+mouse unusable, "low speed USB device reset" continiously

2009-05-27 Thread François Rey
Ok I've been trying several things and here is what I can say:
- this problem is not related to keyboard and mouse connected to the same
external usb hub, since I had it with the mouse only
- this problem happens only on one of my hub: D-link DUB-H7 ports USB 2 hub.
I've got another 4 port hub and it does not happen on it
- I've found many other related bus/posts, the most interesting are:
  - https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/124406 : most likely a duplicate, very
active since jaunty!
  -
http://www.mail-archive.com/linux-usb-us...@lists.sourceforge.net/msg18199.html
: interesting message from an old active thread
So since the first of these links goes to an active and mostly duplicate bug
report, I'm switching to that one from now on.
In any case I attach my outputs here too.

[Bug 91230] Re: keyboard+mouse unusable, "low speed USB device reset" continiously

2009-05-26 Thread François Rey
I would like to reactivate this bug and make it a higher priority. Not only
it's affecting me on Kubuntu 9.04 64bits but:
- there are numerous reports of this issue on the net (just look on google for
ubuntu bouncing or repeating key),
- it's a long standing issue (this bug is 2 years old, reported on 6.10, and I
have it on kubuntu 9.04 64bits)
- the loss of keyboard and mouse is a serious showstopper for anyone trying
linux especially when it happens during install
That bug already kept me away from migrating to Kubuntu a while ago (and on a
different machine btw).
I don't have a KVM switch but my Logitech wireless mouse is connected on a usb
hub on which I also have my keyboard, so I guess my setup is similar to a KVM.
I noticed the problem went away when unplugging the mouse and connecting it
directly, and that's what I had to do in order to install Kubuntu 9.04 64bit on
my Asus U6S laptop. Next I'll try to have them both on 2 separate hubs, and see
if it only happens when kb+mouse are on the same hub.

I'm not sure what the status of this bug is but I hope I'll get some support, I
really would like to get going with this and no longer have to boot xp...
I'll reboot on kubuntu now and get these output for you:
dmesg
lspci -vv
lspci -vvn
lsusb -vv

Hi Everyone,

The Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release is set to come out in a matter of days.
It would be great if someone can confirm this is still an issue with
Intrepid.

As with Edgy, the 18 month support period for Feisty Fawn 7.04 has
reached it's end of life - http://www.ubuntu.com/news/ubuntu-7.04-end-
of-life . As a result we are closing the linux-source-2.6.20 task.
However, I opened the "linux" kernel task so that this report remains
open against the actively developed kernel. Please let us know your
results with Intrepid. Thanks.

If you say so Anton, but the title of this bug includes the USB device

both those things occur on my system with no KVM. The problem goes away

2008-05-16 Thread Mikko Ohtamaa
I noticed this bug now. I have been running Ubuntu 7.04 few days now and
there hasn''t been any problems this far - they appeared today.

1) I am running Skype

2) I am having download background

3) Few flash animation running

25% - 30% CPU load.

Now and then there is a spike in the CPU usage and if you are typing
right then, the key will be stuck. So this is related to CPU usage
somehow. The bug is either causing the CPU spike (USB redetection maxes
the CPU) or USB device gets disconnected because of it.

2008-05-16 Thread Anton Akola
@forest: As much as I would love to see that bug receive some attention
at last, I don't think it is related to bug 124406. I might be wrong but
this one seems to be pretty much narrowed to some KVM switches.

Only workaround so far for me was to recompile a kernel without USB HID
support (if I remember right): in recent kernels, there seem to be no
means to prevent those modules auto loading...

2008-05-15 Thread forest
Is this the same as bug 124406? Here's what I just posted in that
report:

I have the stuck keys problem as well. Every time it happens, I get a
syslog message like this:

usb 2-1: reset low speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3

The usb device in question is my Logitech MouseMan Wheel, model number
B-BD53. I have never seen this happen when I plug it in using its usb
to ps2 adapter, only when I plug directly into one of my computer's usb
ports.

I first noticed the problem while typing in a terminal window and
running a virtual machine in the background. However, it definitely
happens even while my computer is idle. (The log entries below were
written during idle time.)

"carlosbrolotobar" on ubuntuforums.org has the same problem, also correlated
with usb device reset messages:

[Bug 91230] Re: keyboard+mouse unusable, "low speed USB device reset" continiously

2007-11-05 Thread Anton Akola
Hi everyone.

@zou: so far, I didn't get much time to investigate further and my
Ubuntu box is pretty much a brick to me lately. I can't even turn it on
to access through the network as this mess up all the boxes attached to
the kvm.

Anyway I think this bug may be a resurgence in recent kernels of a much older
one (at least the original cause of both bugs could be the same):
http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg02941.html

To anyone concerned, the most immediate workaround should be to
deactivate any USB keyboard driver in the kernel and then let the BIOS
do its best to emulate the keyboard.

But as I said, I didn't get to try or investigate any of the two
suggestions.

Maybe the problem is related to nForce chip set?
I can confirm jjabba's fault-table with abit nf8 mobo, Iogear GCS632U KVM and
Ubuntu 7.10. The same KVM and Ubuntu version works perfectly with GA-7VAXP
mobo, which uses VIA chip set.
