Looking at the attachments in this bug report, I noticed that dmesg.log was flagged as a patch. A patch contains changes to an Ubuntu package that will resolve a bug, however that attachment doesn't appear to be one. Subsequently I've unchecked the patch flag for it. In the future keep in mind the definition of a patch. The Ubuntu Kernel Team is planning to move to the 2.6.27 kernel for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. As a result, the kernel team would appreciate it if you could please test this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. There are one of two ways you should be able to test: 1) If you are comfortable installing packages on your own, the linux- image-2.6.27-* package is currently available for you to install and test. --or-- 2) The upcoming Alpha5 for Intrepid Ibex 8.10 will contain this newer 2.6.27 Ubuntu kernel. Alpha5 is set to be released Thursday Sept 4. Please watch http://www.ubuntu.com/testing for Alpha5 to be announced. You should then be able to test via a LiveCD. I have this problem as well. When I first installed Feisty it came with this kernel Ubuntu, kernel 2.6.17-10-generic That kernel detected the wireless card as eth1 and sometimes it wouldn't detect the ethernet driver. After upgrading to the next kernel release I noticed that it was detected as wlan0 but that it could no longer connect to any wireless AP's and didn't respond to iwlist scan. And some more investigation. I removed old kernel-versions completely (Edgy's 2.6.17-10 and 2.6.17-11) and after restarting WLAN wouldn't work with any of the drivers delivered with Feisty. Then I shut down the computer and restarted and the card worked. Then I restarted and card wouldn't work. Once again I shut down and restarted and it worked. So something weird is going on. Don't know if it's just my hardware wanting to give up or what. It seems to work with the 7.04 live cd when I first manually remove all the wireless modules. That is orinoco, orinoco_pci, prism2_pci, hostap and hostap_pci and after that manually load hostap_pci again.
