This change in the new lirc to drop hardware.conf is going to break a lot of people that upgrade to zesty. That has been part of Ubuntu for a very long time... The root cause here seems to be that the lircd.conf file was updated together with lirc. From the new version 0.9.4 (zesty) the remote definitions are not longer part of the lirc package, so this just cannot happen. So, from a lirc perspective this bug is solved by the lirc-0.8.4c changelog. Unfortunately lircrc files are stored in a user's home directory. To at least cover a majority of the people who would hit this problem, it would be best to just re-run mythbuntu-lirc-generator as the user initiating the upgrade if that user has a .lirc directory (generated by mythbuntu-lirc-generator).
