[Bug 954292] Re: "Modal" dialogs do not appear as expected in multiple monitor setup

2012-05-11 Thread Greg Auger
Another example of an affected window is when you press "Empty the
Recycle Bin" from inside Nautilus.

[Bug 954292] Re: "Modal" dialogs do not appear as expected in multiple monitor setup

2012-05-11 Thread Milan Pavkovic
I can confirm this bug in 12.04. All modal dialogs from applications
opened on my primary monitor open on secondary monitor, aligned to the
left border.

My setup is:
Laptop screen, 1366x768
LCD monitor, 1920x1080

It turned up after a fresh install of 11.10
Was not there before when upgrading to 11.10

Problems like this make me wish I had the brain for programming or
windoze with ubuntu guest :(

I don't believe the features described in that OMG! Ubuntu! article ever
made it into 11.10

[Bug 954292] Re: "Modal" dialogs do not appear as expected in multiple monitor setup

2012-03-27 Thread Onno Steenbergen
The solution can be to open the window where the mouse is located or
where the parent application is located.

Although it should be fixed as it was announced in 11.10:

[Bug 954292] Re: "Modal" dialogs do not appear as expected in multiple monitor setup

2012-03-13 Thread Alex Morozov
I`m using 11.10. This problem applies not only to modal windows. F.e.,
the terminal window is created on the primary monitor, but the system
settings window is always created on the secondary monitor. Just tried
upgrading to the 12.04 beta - no changes. This behaviour simply makes
multihead configuration useless.

[Bug 954292] Re: "Modal" dialogs do not appear as expected in multiple monitor setup

2012-03-13 Thread Greg Auger
** Attachment added: "Step 4.png"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/954292/+attachment/2864524/+files/Step%204.png

** Description changed:

  This bug is easily reproducable.
  1. Get a multiple monitor setup.
  2. Attempt to shutdown the system using the indicators on the _first_
monitor. Observe confirmation dialog position.
  3. Attempt to shutdown the system using the indicators on the _second_
monitor. Observe confirmation dialog position.
  4. If more than two monitors are available, attempt to shutdown the system
using the indicators on the subsequent monitors. Observe confirmation dialog
position.

Expected result: dialog always appears in the centre of a screen.
Actual result: for secondary monitors, the dialog "hugs" the left side of the
second monitor.

This is also seen in other applications, for example Update Manager and
  Firefox.

+ With applications this can cause even bigger issues: with a third
+ monitor, the dialog appears on completely the wrong monitor! It makes no
+ sense for Firefox on the 3rd monitor to be displaying popup dialogs on
+ the second monitor!
